There are several
reasons you may want to time trial:
1)
To see how fast you are.
2)
To benchmark your fitness regularly.
3)
To estimate your lactate threshold.
One estimate of same is your average heart rate over the last 20 minutes
of a 30 minute time trial.
Using this method, I estimated mine for the first time at 171 bps today.
