Randonneuring is a type of organised long distance bicycle riding, with rides typically covering between 100 and 1,200 kilometres (60-750 miles). A participant is known as a randonneur, and an event is a randonnée. The term brevet is used interchangeably with randonnée, although strictly speaking, a brevet is one specific type of event.
From Wikipedia article
Here in the Pittsburgh region, randonneuring as a sport is in its infancy. We have a few local riders who participate in events in Ohio, DC, and eastern PA; in addition, Jim Logan has completed the 2007 Paris-Brest-Paris randonnée as documented in his ride report.

Local Rando Mailing List

There's a newly formed Google mailing list, available at http://groups.google.com/group/pittsburgh-randos. This list is used to plan attendance at long-distance rides, whether it be informal spur-of-the-moment centuries or trips to ride brevets in other states.

2008 Calendar of Randonneuring-ish Events

These are the events in which one or more local members is planning to participate. (Note that, much like the benefit and regional rides, these are not "official" WPW club rides unless stated as such.) The most up-to-date version of this is available here.
