The Spring Picnic and Bike ride took place last weekend on a picture-perfect day. We are planning a similar event for the Fall Picnic on September 9 that will include road routes and trail options.
Some of you may know Danny Chew, there is a fundraiser
for him on Saturday June 17.
The WPW Board has finalized the logo and jersey designs. We are working towards kit items to offer and online ordering information will be announced soon with a deadline to order by early July so that we can have orders delivered by the Fall Rally.
WPW members enjoyed a bike ride to West Virginia led by Chuck. The views were absolutely amazing. And as promised, the roads had almost no traffic and there were plenty of hills! To get a sense of what we got to experience, check out the video summary
In addition to our regular weekly rides on the WPW calendar, please take note of the rides listed below. Want to see a certain kind of ride on the calendar? Drop me an email and we can try to coordinate it.

I hope you all got to enjoy the 60 degree day we had on Thursday! It got me looking forward to the 2017 cycling season.
First looking back on the 2016 season, I would like to thank the 2016 leadership team for their great work organizing WPW traditions, but also making strides moving the club forward with the establishment of a Ride with GPS account, updated webpage, expanding the number of rides all around the region, and taking steps to a new club logo and jersey design. In particular I would like to individually thank and recognize the following club members:
- Steph Burch for leading the Dirty Dozen Training rides and providing invaluable advice for climbing those hills
- Bob Vano, who served as a Ride Captain in 2016 and helped to organize the very successful Fall and Spring Rallies
- Jim Logan who has organized the Icicle Bicycle and Ride of Silence for many years.
It is the volunteers like these that make the club what is. We have several volunteer opportunities and vacancies this year and you can help!
Our first WPW Board Business Meeting
of the year will take place on Tues Jan 31 at 7:30pm
at Claddaugh Irish Pub, 407 Cinema Dr, Pittsburgh, PA 15203 (with an optional dinner and/or drink starting at 6:30. Find the menu and pricing here
.) The agenda includes:
- Treasurer and membership report
- 2016 Rider Milage and Survey report
- Icicle Bicycle recap
- Volunteer vacancies and opportunities
- Jersey and new logo update
- BikePGH report
- Fall and Spring Rally planning
- Car-pooling to out of town rides (e.g. Pedal the Lakes, Mon Valley Century, etc.)
- Other 2017 season planning
All members are welcome to attend the board meeting (and pre-meeting gathering). If you cannot make the board meeting and are interested in volunteering, please email us.
Finally, I would like to introduce to you the other 2017 WPW Officers and Board:

We welcome any comments or suggestions as well as your volunteer time to improve the club.
Happy New Year!
Keeping with tradition, we kicked off the new year with Icicle Bicycle starting near the REI in Southside Works on January 1. Nearly 100 cyclists braved the cold and the Steelers’ Fans for a 20+ mile ride around the city. Several cyclists met afterwards at Claddaugh for some socializing, food, and beer.
Beginning January 1 the newly elected officers and board took over. We are excited to build on the traditions of the club. Please follow the link below to report your milage for 2016 and answer a few questions about the club and how we can better serve the needs of the community.
WPW 2016 Mileage and Survey
We’ll be holding our first board meeting of the year soon and would love to take your input into consideration while planning out events for the year. Stay tuned.
