Report: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats
Report: Ride Improvement Committee Update

A message from Jim

Short version:

I am seeking volunteers interested in meeting over the winter to improve our WPW ride programs for 2008. From the email discussions and the membership meeting Monday night, I already have some volunteers, and they include some of our most involved and passionate riders – that is great, and I will welcome more of the same. However, I really also need members who are less involved, especially for the assessment session, including:

  • Members who are frustrated they aren’t riding more with the club
  • Members that perhaps feel intimidated about riding with the club (“Am I A/B/C/D?” or “perhaps you’ve tried rides and they weren’t what you expected” or “where are the women?”)
  • New members
  • People who consider themselves the younger members of the club
  • Anyone with a specific passion for improving our riding programs

To volunteer, please send an email to me at jimlogan@verizon.net by Friday Nov 23.

Background and specific next steps:

  1. This “WPW2008 committee” is spawned from discussions on our email list, following a call for action from Willard Dillon last August. I’ve volunteered to lead the effort to convert some of the passion for change evidenced on the email postings to concrete plans to improve club rides and ride programs for 2008. Presumably we all joined the club to ride. The more we as members enjoy and find satisfaction in our ride programs, the more others will find the club worth joining.
  2. The detailed version of the committee charter is in this document. In short, we are going through three stages (1) Assess (2) Plan (3) Act. Over November and December we will perform stage 1, the assessment of our current ride programs.
  3. I expect a core team to attend about 4 meetings over the winter plus exchange emails. However, if you just want to show up for one session, that is great. More perspectives are good, especially for the assessment. This is a low stress activity. We all do this for fun. That includes me, so I reserve the right to structure the meetings and the committee so it is most productive and enjoyable.
  4. I plan to hold assessment sessions of our current ride programs and situaton on these dates:
    • Tuesday Nov 27 at 7 PM
    • Saturday Dec 1 at 9 AM
(i.e. typical ride times). Location TBD. I will be looking for people to attend only ONE of these sessions. If it looks like we can consolidate to 1 date we will – I am perssimistic on same and that is why I am planning for two. Also, I will ask Curt for time on the 10 Dec board agenda, so the board can contribute to the assessment as well.
  5. I expect to do at least one email survey as well – once we’ve done the in-person assessments.
